in maintaining a skilled workforce.

 

Our Health and Social Care qualifications provide learners with the knowledge and skills they need to work with some of society’s most vulnerable people, including the elderly, children, and adults with learning difficulties.

Mental Health First Aid

Around 450 million people currently suffer from mental health problems, with recent reports suggesting that over 12 million working days were lost due to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in just one year. It’s important that employers are transparent and open about mental health issues, and this qualification builds an understanding of mental health problems and the support available to colleagues.

Course Content:

  • Introduce and explore different types of mental ill health, and factors that may increase the risk of mental ill health in individuals.

  • Understand how to support individuals with mental ill health within boundaries of own role, and the importance of using a person-centred approach.

  • Explore how to create a mentally healthy environment for individuals in a variety of settings and the legislative framework relevant to mental health.

How is the course delivered?

Alongside the learning materials, learners will have the support of a knowledgeable assessor/tutor who will give them advice and guidance on the course content as well as providing robust feedback on the work they complete.

This course is usually delivered over a period of 10 weeks.

Units:

Unit 1

  • Exploring Mental Health and Mental Ill Health

Unit 2

  • Understanding how to support individuals with mental ill health

Unit 3

  • Understanding a mentally healthy environment

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for this course you must:

  • Live in England

  • Be aged 19+

  • Not currently be on any other funded programme or an apprenticeship

  • Have lived in the EU for at least 3 years

  • Not have already completed the course

Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties

Having a learning difficulty means that people find it harder to learn certain skills. As this affects around 15% of people, it is important for those working in a wide range of sectors to have some knowledge of different Specific Learning Difficulties such as ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia.

Course Content:

  • The general characteristics of Specific Learning Difficulties, alongside the specific characteristics of ADHD, ADD, dyslexia and dyscalculia

  • How specific learning difficulties can affect children and adults in different ways

  • The importance of early diagnosis

  • The various assessment methods available to diagnose specific learning difficulties

  • How individuals can be supported to gain, start and continue with study and employment

Understanding Autism L3

More than 1 in every 100 people in the UK have an autism diagnosis. The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism is designed for learners who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of the condition, and the challenges and strengths that autistic people may experience. You will learn about characteristics, diagnosis and how understanding and different theories surrounding autism have developed over time. Within this qualification, the term ‘autism’ is used as an umbrella term for all autistic spectrum conditions, including Asperger syndrome.

Course Content:

  • Autism in context

  • Positive behavioural support for autistic individuals

  • Support and management of transitions for autistic

  • individuals

  • Therapeutic interventions and support available for autistic individuals and co-occuring conditions

  • Safeguarding and resilience in autism

Eligibility

This course is fully funded providing you meet the below eligibility criteria:

  • 19+ years old

  • Lived in the UK for 3+ years
